3 STEPS ON HOW TO BECOME A FOOD DELIVERY RIDER

Would you like to become a delivery rider on an e-bike, but you have no idea where to start? We at e-bike to go, will give you all the ins and outs on how to become one. In just 3 steps we help you find your new, flexible, adventurous job – and answer all the important questions.

Becoming a delivery rider: the basics

To become a bike delivery rider, you must be at least 16 years old – at Uber Eats and Deliveroo it’s even 18 years old. In addition, your salary depends on the platform you choose, how often you can work and at what times you are available. The peak hours are of course in the evening, and in addition, most platforms pay not per hour but per ride, so the salary depends on different factors. In general, you can think of 10 euros per hour or 5 euros per order. Let’s start with the first step.

Step 1: Choose a platform

Probably everyone has ordered food at some point, but if you’re thinking about becoming a delivery rider, there is much more to take into consideration than how much a restaurant charges per delivery. The platforms that are most well known are Takeaway.com, Deliveroo and Uber Eats. This is an important choice, because with each platform you also immediately choose whether you are going to work as an employee (Takeaway.com) or as a freelancer (Deliveroo and Uber Eats). It may seem easier to become an employee, but there must be vacancies and you have to get hired. In comparison, working as a self-employed person you have much more freedom and you are paid per ride, so working faster means you earn more – “ka-ching” for fast cyclists on the e-bike!

Step 2: Get your necessities in order

As already has become clear, the procedure slightly differs per platform. For instance when you are employed by Takeaway.com, they will arrange the supplies for you. There is a good chance that you will ride around on one of our e-bikes to go, but you do not have to arrange anything yourself. If you want to work for Deliveroo or Uber Eats, you are responsible for getting your own bike. Of course getting a professional subscription with e-bike to go is not only super easy but ensures you of having the best e-bike to work with. Next to setting up your transportation, you need to register with the Chamber of Commerce (Kruispuntbank) and get a VAT number. You can request this on the website of Kruispuntbank and pass it on to Deliveroo or Uber Eats when you register. Be careful to keep good records of your business, this is mandatory as a freelancer!

Step 3: Register and start

Did you make a choice and decided on a e-bike subscription? Then you only have to take the last step of becoming a delivery rider: register with the platform of your choice. Use these links to sign up for Takeaway.com, Deliveroo or Uber Eats. After signing up, you will be invited for an interview to check your details and collect your delivery gear (bag, phone mount). All you have to do now: download the right app (the platform will guide you through this), plan your first work moment, and get started!
